Marcia Miller's Reflections & Resources

About Me

Hello!   My name is Marcia Miller, and I’m a longtime homeschooling mom and unschooling advocate.  Our family has enjoyed many years of learning together, and every day is a different adventure. I love talking with other parents about homeschooling and unschooling, and how we learn naturally throughout our lives.  I also like collecting and sharing resources, so I thought this might be a good place to do more of that.

I have a background as an elementary and middle school teacher, and a master’s degree in reading and language arts, however I don’t think these things give me any special knowledge as an unschooling parent.  If I have any of that, it comes from years of day-to-day learning and trusting the process of creating our own new path.  My son, Ben, has been my best guide, and my husband, Don, my best support.

I hope you enjoy what you read here and gather some resources to enrich your days.  Please leave a comment to let me know you’ve been here — on this page or anywhere else. You can also email me at marcia @ thorntoncreek dot com.  I would love to hear from you.

Cheers!

Marcia

    Hello Marcia!
Thank you for your wonderful ideas on using cuisenaire rods! They were used here in Australia a bit before my time so when my son was given them as a birthday gift I didn’t know what to do with them! Now I do!!

Your story re home schooling is really interesting and I will definitely explore you site again.
    Many thanks, Caroline.

Hi Caroline! I’ve always enjoyed sharing our stories, and I’m so glad you’re getting a chance to think about all the fun ways you can play with the Cuisenaire rods.
      All the best to you,
      Marcia
